REVERT Project promoted on FAIR: “GET CLOSER TO EUROPE IN THE REGION OF MURCIA”
As every year, the “Europe Day” is celebrated on May 9. The date coincides with the anniversary of Robert Schumann’s historic statement. In a speech in Paris in 1950, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman laid out his idea of a new form of political cooperation in Europe that would make warfare between European nations unthinkable. That idea was that of a European institution that pooled and managed the production of coal and steel. Just one year later, the Treaty creating that institution was signed. Schuman’s proposal is considered the beginning of what is now the European Union.
The Region of Murcia (Spain) joined the celebration of this day to commemorate the peace and unity of the continent and express the Europeanist vocation of this Region.
One of the activities organized by the General Directorate of the European Union and the Europe Direct Region of Murcia Center last May 12, 2023 to celebrate it was FAIR: “GET CLOSER TO EUROPE IN THE REGION OF MURCIA”.
The Fair arose as an initiative of Europe Direct Region of Murcia, which was proposed last February to the rest of the networks, centers and institutions that are grouped under the informal network “Connect with the EU in the Region of Murcia”. The objective was to make visible these institutions and their activities and participation on European projects, as well as different associations that work with European programs or that have a clearly European vocation to the general public.
In total, 14 institutions and 5 associations participated. Among the participating institutions were REVERT partners from the Region of Murcia (FFIS/IMIB/ SMS /UCAM) explaining the challenge and main objectives of REVERT and handing out project brochures.
Numerous citizens (approximately 500) came to the stands of the fair, placed in the Graduate Hall of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Murcia. They were interested in the services offered or project promoted by the different exhibitors. Among them, several groups of high school students who, accompanied by their teachers, were able to receive information about European programs aimed at youth, especially mobility, volunteering, employment, internships, Erasmus- citizen participation, European projects or studies.
Parallel to the Fair, informative talks were held in the Mariano Baquero Graduate Hall of the Faculty of Letters on various topics related to the European Union.
The event concluded with great success and with the desire to repeat this initiative in the coming years, thus giving more visibility to the general public of all the possibilities offered by European programs and benefits that European projects bring to citizens.
